Born in Tehran, Hatam is a sound artist, composer, and occasional specialist-DJ who is highly active in the contemporary music scenes of Berlin. She studied with minimalist sculptor Robert Morris, then algorithmic composition with Sergio Luque; Hatam works primarily with SuperCollider, a sound synthesis programming environment. She performs and composes in the sonic duos Hacklander / Hatam and LABOUR (Studio LABOUR) with recent performance commissions from the Martin Gropius Bau, Sharjah Art Foundation, Berlin Atonal, in addition to works for theater and performance. She is a 2021 fellow of the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles and a resident artist at Callie’s in Berlin.
Additionally, she is co-founder and co-director of N.K., the legendary platform and project space in Berlin active since 2008, where she has hosted hundreds of concerts, workshops, lectures and presentations following the organisation’s mission statement of public engagement with the avant-garde.
