Shabnam Parvaresh

Parvaresh was born in Tehran. She began to play the traditional Persian instrument Santur at the age of six and discovered the flute at nine and the clarinet at 12. At the age of 13 she already achieved second place at the youth music festival in Tehran. After completing private studies, she began her musical career as a clarinetist in the Tehran Symphony Orchestra and the Iranian National Traditional Orchestra. She received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts and painting and pursued a career as an artist and musician in Tehran. In 2013 she started studying jazz at the Osnabrück University of Music, her teachers included Tineke Postma, Marike Van Dijk,Maarten Ornstein und Thomas Rückert. In 2018 she won the Study Up Award for Jazz with the Lukas Schwegmann Quintet. In 2020 she was awarded the Zonta music prize for jazz clarinet. In Germany she performed on stage together with the composer and clarinet player Kinan Azmeh, the pianist Achim Kaufmann and various bands and ensembles. In 2019 she founded her trio Sheen, with whom she will release her debut album in 2022.
