Zola Mennenöh

Mennenöh was born in Wuppertal in 1988 and grew up in Remscheid. At the age of eight she started playing classical flute, four years later she discovered jazz. She studied at the Jazzinstitut Berlin, the HfM Weimar and the Rytmisk Music Conservatory in Copenhagen with mentors such as Sidsel Endresen, Jenny Hval, Greg Cohen, Michael Schiefel and Jeff Cascaro. In 2011 she won the advancement award at the national vocal competition New Voices. She sang in the Youth Jazz Orchestra NRW, in the Bundesjazzorchester and collaborated closely with Max Andrzejewski’s Hütte und Chor, Greg Cohen and with Kurt Rosenwinkel for his album Caipi. In 2018 she joined the Cologne vocal ensemble Of Cabbages and Kings. In 2019 she worked in the theater production “Die Räuber” at Schauspiel Köln (director: Ersan Mondtag, music: Max Andrzejewski) and with the video artist Hipermania/Malwa Grabowska. In 2015 she released the EP “Sirens” with her project Zola Run. Concerts and tours have already taken her to China, Estonia, Italy, Croatia, Netherlands, Oman, Austria, Switzerland, Senegal and Slovenia. In November 2020 she released her debut album “Longing for Belonging” on the New York label figureight records. Zola Mennenöh lives and works between Copenhagen, Berlin and Cologne.
